Carletta Jean Russell Sunrise: June 18, 1933 Sunset: November 23, 2023 Carletta Jean Russell was born Carletta Jean Strother on June 18, 1933, in Des Moines, IA, and departed this life on November 23, 2023, in her adopted home of Las Vegas, NV at age 90. She was the daughter of Eva Bell and Clarence Strother. Both parents preceded her in death, as did her husband of 42 years, Fabius Fullwood Russell, DO. Also, preceding her in transition are 5 of her sisters (Alice Parra, Ellen Robinson, Evylena McClinton, Bertharena Cropp, Katherine McCraney) and her 5 brothers (Clarence William Strother, Lawrence Strother, Lewis Strother, Sylvester Strother, and Carl Strother). She is survived by the remaining Strother sibling, MaryLou Sharp of Los Angeles. On December 21, 1961, Carletta married Fabius “Jack” Fullwood Russell, DO. During 42 years of marriage, they shared their love with their three daughters, Linda Renee, Sonja Lee, and Heidi Ann. Carletta was a strong community activist, and a member of the Links Association (in both Flint, MI and Las Vegas), as well as a founding member of the Flint Chapter of the Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club (BNPs). She served on various civic boards and committees in Flint such as Art Train, and the Flint Economic Development Corporation. Carletta was also a successful realtor in Flint for several years. Her passions included travel, music of all kinds, hosting and attending wonderful social events, and doting on her husband and children. She was a strong woman of faith and loved gathering her family together at meals and giving praise with grace. She was thrilled to have a granddaughter and absolutely adored Dashinae. Carletta's two favorite things after Jack and the girls were laying on a beach (water baby!) and her sweet dogs. She also really enjoyed Judge Judy, bingo and buffets! Carletta leaves to mourn her loss: three daughters, Ms. Linda Renee Russell of Hercules, CA, Ms. Sonja Lee Russell of Chicago, IL, Ms. Heidi Ann Russell of Las Vegas, NV, as well as granddaughter Dashinae Russell-Sanders of Dublin, CA. One sister, Mrs. MaryLou Sharp of Los Angeles, CA; one sister-in-law, Anna LaSalle Lawrence of Richardson, TX, one brother-in-law Mr. LaForrest (Stephanie) Russell of East Norriton, PA, special niece Julie Robinson of Anchorage, AK, and a host of other dear relatives, friends and acquaintances.
