Yvonne Overton

Celebrating The Life Of Yvonne Overton "Oviie" Yvonne Overton was born on April 16, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Edna Overton. (her father Robert Overton preceded her in death}. She was the youngest of four children, Ronald, Yvette and Robert Jr. who preceded her in death. Yvonne grew up on the south side of Chicago, where she attended Foster Park Elementary School, later graduating from Lindblom High School. She went on to study at Ray Vogue College, where she received her degree in merchandising, marketing and fashion design. The girl knew she liked some clothes! After college, Yvonne moved to New York and began working for Macy's in Harold Square, where she was overseeing the day-to-day operations of several departments. She loved her work and was known for her dedication and eye for design. Yvonne relocated to Las Vegas after 9/11 to be close to her family who she loved dearly. Upon her moving to Las Vegas, she discovered her sister had been diagnosed with MS so she applied for and got a job with the MS Society. Yvonne worked for the MS Society as an event planner and fundraiser coordinator and as a result of her position, she began to meet people who knew somebody who knew somebody which allowed her to be able to help somebody she loved and made a difference in so many lives. After the MS Society left Las Vegas, Yvonne began working with Nevada Senior Services in a similar position, where she continued helping people (God placed within her a special kind of love - a love for people and a passion for helping others that came deep within her soul). Her compassion and love for people were evident in everything she did: Once her task was over at Nevada Senior Services, she went on to work for Sun Country Airlines as a flight attendant and flight instructor, training new employees. Yvonne was good at her job because of her love for people and the spirit of serving, always giving her very best. She worked until her failing health no longer allowed her to work. Yvonne or "Oviie" as she was often called was indeed a beautiful soul, a gift from God's grace with a love for people and a servant's spirit, whether you were family or friends. She was always giving and helping in any way she could. Yvonne never met a stranger, and everyone knew her loved her. She had a great sense of humor and was very quick wit. She loved to laugh and make someone else laugh. Yvonne accepted Christ at an early age and strived to keep him as the center of her life. She will often sing the song her grandmother taught her "Yes, Jesus Loves Me". There was a bond between her and her mother so strong to the point that if one was hurting the other could feel it. An angel gone too soon. She will truly be missed. Yvonne leaves to cherish her loving memory, her mother Edna Overton, her brother Ronald Overton, and her sister Yvette Overton Castaldo, one nephew Lavell Martin, five nieces Marcia Overton, Karima Lindsey, Melissa, Nguyen, Mariah Johnson, Deshanna Overton, nine great nephews, eight great nieces and a host of other relatives and many, many friends near and far. God's gift to the world has been called home. She will be deeply missed; her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
