John L. Holleman

John Lee Holleman was one offive children born to Rush and Dora Lee Holleman on July 1,1940 in Crockett, Texas. John departed this earthly life on Sunday September 30,2018 resting peacefully at home surrounded by his family. John received his education through the Crockett Public School System attending Crockett Colored / Ralph Bunche High School. In 1957 the Holleman Family relocated to Rillito, Arizona where the family attended Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Hopkins. In 1962 John met Nellie Jones and in 1965 they became united in holy matrimony, spending the next 53years of their lives together. In 1974 John and Nellie packed up the family and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. New to Las Vegas, John hit the ground running and landed ajob at the Holiday Inn Las Vegas now Harrah's Hotel & Casino. John also worked at the Desert Inn Hotel & Casino. John eventually became employed at the Nevada Test Site. After a productive career with over 28years of service, John retired in 2007. Having a passion is truly important in life and John's passion was singing. John spent many years traveling across the country singing God's praises and delivering God's message. John began singing lead in Arizona with his brother Paul Holleman, in The Spiritual Harmony Gospel Singers. Moving to Las Vegas, John joined The Gospel Tones, this was an opportunity to sing and travel with some of the most decorated gospel singers in the country. John became the lead singer for the Las Vegas Allstars, a group made up of top vocalists and musicians from the Las Vegas Valley. Still today John is held in high regard for his vocal ability and paving the wayfor so many quartet groups in the city. John was preceded in death by both of his parents: Rush and Dora Lee Holleman. One brother: Paul Edward Holleman. John leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 53years: Nellie Holleman. Five daughters: Bessie Holleman, Shirley Jennings-Cobb, Yvonne Jones and Joyce & Larry Travis all of Las Vegas, NV. Janet Jones-Peete of Tucson, AZ. Three sons: Timothy Jones of Charleston, SC, Elester Jones and Anthony & Jean Jones of Las Vegas, Nv. Two Sisters: Vetter & Manuel Shorter and Earlie Holleman all of Cincinnati, DB. One Brother: RH & Edna Holleman of Dallas, TX Two very close friends: Charlie Banks Sr. and Bobby Wilson. God-son: Edward Gaston Sr. Forty-nine grandchildren, sixty-eight great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
