Steven Warning Ellerson

Steven Waring Ellerson was Born April 22, 1953, on a warm 86 degree day in St. Louis, Missouri to Cleather Manning and Tommie Polk Jr. He was the first-born son of a large family. Steven was a great big brother and did his best to look out for all of his siblings. He had a special relationship with each one of them. I his quiet, but purposeful way, Steven managed to be a practical joker, who loved to bowl as long as his health permitted. He was an excellent chess aficionado, who had little difficulty beating electronic chess games on all levels. he and brother Ron C. competed intensely in dominoes, both having superior skills. He had time to phone-buddy with sister Brendalyn-- the long conversations will be missed. Steven spoiled the twins Tiffany and Timothy, especially every Fourth of July with hundreds of dollars in fireworks, because they are the babies of the family. His patience in chess and learning to become an excellent dealer at a local hotel spilled over into everyday life, such as the time when he ensured that the twins knew their parent's names, address and phone number by the very first day of kindergarten. Steven did not like having pictures taken, however he generally indulged his oldest sister, Teresa, and on occasion, he would let his niece, Zivon, and baby sister, Zeoila, take pictures of him. Teresa had handled much of Steven's paperwork and health concerns also. Steven took care of little brother Joseph in a caring way. He was in communications with younger brother Bishop Dr. Terry Criner, who paid some of his bills, took him to doctor's appointments for years and recently had begun his grooming. They had conversations about church. Steve would say "I believe in God!". This meant a lot, because being raised in the Manning household and he accepted God the Father, the Lord Jesus as his Savior and the Holy Ghost. One must know Steven to understand this. He also financially supported the Tabernacle Worship Center, International over the years. He lovingly called Cleo, baby Mom because she is named after our mother. His niece Chamanda would take care of business for him as well. Steven truly loved that he could call her, and she would show up. Steve was quiet and for the most part humble, he did not brag on himself, but was super proud of his family's accomplishments. Those were the moments when he smiled. Steven retired from Silver State after decades of working there. He received the Customer Service Excellence award for saving a family which was trapped in a fire. He was also honored for his many years of service. Steve also received the Outstanding Son Award, that was proud day for our mother, Cleather Manning. Steven received all his formal education in Las Vegas, NV. He was raised in the church oas were all of us. As children, Zeoila sang, "Yes, Jesus Loves Me," and the seven remaining siblings divided up portions of Psalm 23. Steven, being the oldest went last. He stood tall and proclaimed, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever." (Psalm 23:6) " Train up a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart." (Proverbs 22:6) Steven leaves to cherish his memory: His mother Cleather Manning, four brothers Ronnie P. Criner Sr.(Rosalie); Bishop Dr. Terry Criner (Loretta); Joseph H. Manning Jr. and Timothy Criner-Manning; Five sisters, Pastor Teresa Criner-Bias(Walter Jr.); Brendalyn Daniels, Zeoila Q. Manning, Cleather Bias-Manning, and Tiffany Banks (Shannon). One Uncle Harold Ellerson (Juanita). Four Aunts Gladys Evelyn Cook, Sally Ellerson, Juanita Richard, and Lovella Reed (Curtis). A host of nieces and nephews as well many cousins. Steven had siblings on his father's side that he did not know, Thomas Polk, Kimberly Polk, Shirley Polk-Miller (Eugene Jr.), Angela Taylor (Tony); Sisters-in-law Deborah Polk, Carolyn Polk. Steven is preceded in death by his stepfather Joseph H. Manning Sr., brother Charles Criner, and sister Charlotte Manning. Steven will be missed by all of us.
